When you first meet Saud Aslam, one of our Project Managers with Capital Planning, Projects and Infrastructure, you can be sure to recognize his warm smile even under the mask. For Saud, every day is an adventure, every day is a learning day.

His day-to-day job uses his skills and training to ensure that Oak Valley Health’s Markham Stouffville Hospital infrastructure projects are delivered safely, sustainably, at the highest quality and to everyone’s satisfaction. The keys to success are project management and agile best practices to keep projects on track, on budget and within the scope and schedule.

Building hospital projects during COVID-19 has added new and unexpected challenges. From social distancing and a myriad of public health guidelines to working with teams virtually and regulations around the number of vendors and contractors on-site, Saud and his team have skillfully navigated these unprecedented times as the pandemic has evolved. Whether it be turning the Cornell Community Centre gymnasium into a COVID-19 Community Vaccination Centre or quickly pivoting to move the COVID-19 Assessment Centre from a trailer to inside the hospital in the middle of winter, Saud ensures it gets done by being nimble.

“We are doing great – during the pandemic we have successfully closed seven projects, including the COVID-19 Assessment Centre and the COVID-19 Community Vaccination Centre at Cornell Community Centre, with no complaints and will continue managing the projects and respecting the Public Health guidelines. The whole team at Oak Valley Health’s Markham Stouffville Hospital had been incredibly supportive and amazing to work with. ” Saud explained. “My belief is: ‘Together we grow and together we’ll achieve’.”

Saud’s goal on every project is to make the Oak Valley Health Markham Stouffville Hospital environment and buildings more efficient with state-of-the-art modern technology. He works to ensure it is a safe place that the community can trust for the best health care services.

When he’s not working to improve infrastructure at Oak Valley Health Markham Stouffville Hospital, Saud loves to spend time with his family. He’s an avid reader, a bit of a fitness buff and admits to being a good chef. He rounds out his personal time by doing work for the community.
