Laboratory Medicine services provide support to Oak Valley Health patients and people living in the communities we serve. Every year, our laboratories perform approximately 1.3 million tests.

We are continually evolving to meet all inpatient and outpatient needs by making use of new analyzers with improved testing methods, automated systems, research, education for our staff, and efficient use of available resources. Our laboratory staff members include pathologists, microbiologists, biochemists, haematologists, pathologists’ assistants, medical laboratory technologists, medical laboratory technicians, and administrative staff.

How to check your test results

Option 1

Visit the Patient Connect portal, which is an online tool that gives patients and families access to their health care information 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Patient Connect only contains a portion of your medical record. Information not available online can be requested from the Health Records department.  Routine blood test results performed on site are available within a six-hour timeframe.

Option 2

Contact the Health Records department.

Our services

Through our Laboratory Medicine program, we provide a range of services to support patient care. For information on examinations offered and costs when applicable, refer to the applicable phone number listed above.

Where examinations outside the scope of accreditation for Oak Valley Health are included on a patient report, the accredited reference centre responsible for the results will be clearly identified on all applicable report(s).

Blood collection

Blood collection is done for both patients who are staying in the hospital and patients coming for appointments and procedures across many different Oak Valley Health departments, including Emergency, inpatient units, and clinics.

Note: The specimen collection laboratories at Oak Valley Health do not accept requisitions from community physicians or health care practitioners.

Community members with requisitions from their physician’s offices or other health care institutions who are not actively receiving treatment at our hospitals can visit a community laboratory service provider (i.e. LifeLabs, Dynacare, Alpha Labs, etc.).

Sample processing

Sample processing is performed by skilled lab technicians, who receive and prepare hundreds of samples daily and ensure the right samples get to the right testing area quickly.

Patient experience

Our facilities are wheelchair accessible and infant/child-friendly. The compassionate professionals in Laboratory Medicine understand that drawing blood samples can cause some anxiety and that waiting for laboratory results can be stressful. We provide emergency and rapid response testing to meet the needs of patients and physicians. Main laboratory service is offered 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
